Program - July 27 - Hands to Honduras

Hands to Honduras has provided clean water for the 3,000 residents of Colonia Eduardo Castillo in Trujillo, Honduras.  Each February, crews of Rotarians and others from around the country travel to Trujillo, Honduras, at their own expense, to work with villagers to improve their communities.  Volunteers work on the construction of schools and water projects. Tom Plumb, a member of the Port Isabel Rotary Club, has developed and overseen development projects throughout Honduras for the past 18 years. In 2007, Hands to Honduras, moved its service area from Tela, Honduras to Trujillo, Honduras. Since then 36 classrooms have been built in villages around Trujillo, five villages have received electric power, clean water has been provided for over 17,000 people in five barrios, a Pech Indian village and a mountain village,  hundreds of computers and school supplies with training to schools have been provided, and countless latrines have been built.

New Lunch Buffet
By the looks of it, it seems as if the NEW LUNCH BUFFET was a hit! Please come out to tomorrow's meeting and give it a try if you missed out last week.
Cash is King
We spend way too much money on credit card fees every year! From now on, anyone who pays for lunch and tickets in CASH, will receive two extra raffle tickets. All you have to do is bring a $20 bill.... Cash and tickets is now $20 even!
Shade for Shelter Animals
The McAllen South Rotary Club has been awarded a district grant for its Shade for Shelter Animals Project. The project, in conjunction with The Palm Valley Animal Center, and Laurie P. Andrews PAWS Center, will provide the animals of the shelter a shaded, much cooler place to play and socialize. With record-breaking temperatures regularly presenting themselves in South Texas, this project could not have come at a better time. Palm Valley Animal Center is a 501(c)3 animal welfare organization who's Mission Statement is to care for homeless, companion animals, and enhance the relationship between animals and people through adoptions, education and community outreach. PVAC and PAWS rely on grants, donations, and volunteers. For more information on how to get involved, please contact the shelter at 956-686-1141.
Thank you to those of you who have paid your dues. Please take care of those invoices as quickly as possible.
